INCLEMENT WEATHER AND AIR QUALITY GUIDE

Temperature & Air Quality Matrix

TEMPERATURE AIR QUALITY POLICY
19° and Below * RED DAY INSIDE **
20° and Above GREEN DAY OUTSIDE

*We use the temperature of the "Real Feel", which includes wind chill.

We will be posting a RED flag after 8:30am on the field fence by the drop-off/pick-up area on "INSIDE" mornings.

AQI Level & Health Recommendations

AQI Level Range Health Recommendation (for 24 hour exposure)
Good 0-50 Air quality is satisfactory and poses little or no risk.
Moderate 51-100 Sensitive individuals should avoid outdoor activity as they may experience respiratory symptoms.
Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups 101-150 General public and sensitive individuals in particular are at risk to experience irritation and respiratory problems.
Unhealthy 151-200 Increased likelihood of adverse effects and aggravation to the heart and lungs among general public.

School Policies & Procedures

LIGHTNING PLAN:

  1. WHEN THE RECESS AIDES HEAR THUNDER OR SEE LIGHTNING, THEY WILL CONTACT THE OFFICE

  2. THE OFFICE WILL CHECK THE LIGHTNING MAP ON WEATHERBUG.COM

  3. IF THE LIGHTNING STRIKE IS WITHIN 8 MILES OR LESS OF THE SCHOOL, STUDENTS WILL BE BROUGHT INSIDE

  4. STUDENTS WILL BE KEPT INDOORS FOR AT LEAST 30 MIN FROM THE TIME OF THE LAST LIGHTNING STRIKE

TEMPERATURE AND "REAL FEEL" IS MONITORED USING THE SCHOOL'S WEATHER STATION

AIR QUALITY:

MONITORED USING THE IQAIR.COM/US AIR QUALITY INDEX

  • GREEN: NO RISK, STUDENTS TO HAVE OUTSIDE RECESS

  • YELLOW/ORANGE: STUDENTS WITH RESPIRATORY ISSUES WILL BE ALLOWED TO SIT IN THE OFFICE DURING RECESS

  • RED: ALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE INSIDE RECESS
